After studying economics at Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, Drs. de Jong quickly moved into the field of aerospace. He started at Airbus in the role of head of Defence and Security, before moving to the role of Vice President Technology and Strategy Military Aircraft and then Vice President Training and Flight Operations Service. Drs. de Jong became CEO of Airbus Defence and Space Netherlands in 2013. After having fulfilled this role for almost 7 years, he took on a new challenge by becoming manager director at TNO at the end of 2019. During his time as CEO of Airbus, Drs. de Jong took place in a CEO interview at our faculty, inspiring students with his impressive career. During this time, he started to come more in touch with the VSV and was always open to strengthen the bonds between at that time Airbus and the VSV, but this strong bond has remained after he switch to TNO. However, how much he truly deserves this title became clear when upon short notice he stepped in to become chair of the day for the space symposium in 2020.
